I’ve been messing with routers, for the most part, and running into bugs.

The Sun is starting to show itself more, which is quite nice – I was walking outside around 17:00 last night and could still see some twilight. It’s starting to feel a little bit like Spring.

I understood long ago that animal farming is inherently exploitative. I think any person with the slightest bit of empathy will agree on this point, particularly after seeing the way that these animals are “processed” in industrial facilities. Still, even with this knowledge, I managed to maintain enough cognitive dissonance to continue eating animal products and ignore the reality of this industry.

So there I was at the grocery store with a friend, and as I was picking up some meat he pointed me to the vegan meat section – a gentle reminder of how my actions influence real, living creatures. I thought about it for a second before saying “why not”, and returning the chicken back to the shelf. I went home with the vegan meat and didn’t like it at all, but that thought was finally enough to push me over the edge.

I have to admit it’s kind of scary. It’s not the meat I’m worried about – I’ve been reducing my consumption for a long time now so that doesn’t seem so bad. There are many foods that I’m more than happy to eat instead, anyway. I’m mostly sad about having to give up so many desserts that contain eggs or dairy, but reading through places such as r/veganbaking gives me some peace of mind.

If anyone is reading this, have a wonderful day, and maybe spare a thought for the sheer amount of suffering caused by our actions.

The snow started melting today, and it looks like tomorrow it’ll be fully gone. It was nice while it lasted at least…

On a more positive note, my headphones came in today! The earpads need to be replaced so I’ve ordered a pair, but I’m otherwise very happy with them. I don’t regret choosing an open-back design, they feel wonderfully light and airy, and much less claustrophobic than the closed-backs I’m used to.

Today I have discovered the wonderful music of Mei Semone, so I’ve been enjoying that quite a bit.

Third snowy day in a row! It’s going to melt soon so I’m enjoying it while I can.

Fixed this website up a little bit, and added this journal page; its design was inspired by Devine’s now page, which I find really nice. Who knows, maybe it will have some actual content as well…

I also have some “new” headphones coming in soon – a pair of used Sennheiser HD598s in surprisingly good condition. This will be my first high-quality pair of headphones, which I’m pretty excited about.
